What common mistakes do you think players often make in tourneys?

I think a lot of players commit too early trying to chip up. You should be ready for the long game, pick your spots..etc

You’re right! Plenty of players rush in like the tourney is a sprint. One thing I notice a lot is people getting emotionally attached to mediocre hands. Instead of slowing down, they try to force a moment that isn’t there.
Another big one is ignoring stack sizes around them. You see someone shove into a giant stack thinking they can scare them but big stacks love freebies. Tourneys reward patience, timing and knowing when the table is telling you to chill. Most players lose because they try to win everything at once.

One of the biggest mistakes I have seen poker players make at tourneys is allowing their emotions to get over them. A bad luck, and a player loses a big pot, and they just change their playing pattern and strategy to chase pots. To get above this, I always advocate every poker player to approach every hand like it is a fresh game. Tilt always costs poker players tournaments.

Emotions definitely play their part. I try to work on keeping my emotions in check, and don't let it affect my decisions even when I'm frustrated. It's easy to tilt players that cannot control their emotions.

Newbies usually make the mistake of playing a poker tourney like a cash game. They are absolutely different and should be played using different strategy.

Also, a lot of them do not adjust to stack sizes because I've seen them play the same style whether it's 20bb, 40bb or 80bb.
