Is playing freeroll really playing poker?

Since one of my guys won small money from a freeroll tournament, everybody suddenly became “professional poker player” . Freeroll still counts as poker too. The pressure may be lower because there is no buy-in, but strategy is still there. In fact some freeroll players are more dangerous because they play reckless.

Freerolls are a bonus that gives you a chance to win extra money, but I don’t think the experience is very helpful since most players don’t care if they lose, there’s no real risk. I disagree with the idea that freeroll players are inherently more dangerous just because they might play recklessly. If anything, those are the players you want at your table, they tend to commit with weaker hands.

I actually started my bankroll by playing freerolls when I couldn’t deposit extra money. I enjoy the grind and the process of working my way up. I even remember when PokerStars had a million-dollar freeroll, that was insane!

Yes, it’s absolutely poker, just a different environment. The rules, strategy, and decision-making are still there. What changes is player behavior. Since there’s no financial risk, many freeroll players make loose or unpredictable moves you’d rarely see in regular games. Freerolls are good for learning

I’d say yes, it’s poker, just with lower stakes and less pressure. It teaches decision-making, patience, and strategy. For me, freerolls feel like practice grounds where you learn the game before risking real money.
