There is a huge difference between online poker game and live game. Online poker game is fast and monotonous in nature. When distraction is low, variance tends to hit harder. In normal live game, interpersonal interaction makes the game seems slow and less businesslike.
Do you believe that variance hit harder online games than live games?

Yes I do, because when you play online you see more hands per hour.

Yeah, it definitely feels like variance is more brutal online. You're playing way more hands per hour, so the swings happen faster and feel more intense. Plus you can't see physical tells to help make better decisions. The speed of online play just amplifies everything - both the good runs and bad beats.

When you are playing many hands in quick succession as is the case with online poker, there is no way that you won't feel that variance hits harder. I used to feel the same way too. But I have come to realize that the slow nature of live games is what makes it seem variance is lower on live games. But it is literally the same.

A lot of players definitely feel like variance hits harder online because the pace is so much faster. you're playing way more hands per hour than live poker. So you experience more swings in a shorter time which can feel more brutal. Plus, without physical tells, it might seem more random and unpredictable at times.

Variance doesn’t “hit harder” online poker in a mathematical sense, but it often feels that way. Online games deal many more hands per hour, so you experience good and bad swings much faster. That makes downswings look more intense and frequent.

Online variance often feels harsher because hands come much faster and player pools are tougher. When it happens, I usually keep my stakes low, track results, and focus on decision quality over short-term outcomes. The best protection is solid bankroll management and not letting a bad run change disciplined play.

This online vs live variance talk is always hot 😂 I used to think online poker was rigged until I tried a live game. Online games just hit you so fast. You can lose 5 hands in 10 minutes . Live game hides the pain to some extent because conversation and distractions reduce the impact..
