Most sports I find players show up for a paycheck. They'll sit out if they feel sick, or slightly injured.

I think hockey players are different in that regard because many players in the NHL play through injuries, and actually play with heart. You don't really see that with other sports, especially in the NBA.

Thoughts?

I think they are a lot tougher than other athletes for sure! I also think they were a bit tougher back in the days when they didn't wear helmets too! That's one of the reasons why hockey is my favorite sport. Though I will say I believe American football players are pretty tough too.

I do think that they are built differently due to the fact that they need to have a lots of stamina when it comes to playing hockey. In case if they are wearing skates, then they must also maintain balance. Apart from that, playing the game of hockey can result in getting injured. This means that they may need to face a lots of challenges.

Hockey players are not built differently. Every sport has its own madness. So, the context matters. I’ve seen footballers play with injury too, they might not say it. You also need to know that money and contracts is part of these things, it's not only determined by passion.

Even with all the padding, hockey players are tough, especially the goalies when the pucks are coming at them. Football players tend to be brutal themselves, but each sport has a different level of endurance and toughness.
