I prefer larger fields when I play tournaments because of the bigger prizes when you make a deep run. Even though the variance is higher, I still enjoy smaller fields in online MTTs since I tend to have a higher win rate in them.

What do you prefer, small or large field online MTTs?

A large field is sweet when it comes to jackpot but it will test your patience. I tried it once, I spent hours, in the end there was nothing to show for it. Small field can give you peace of mind because at least the chances are higher.

Obviously, taking 1st place in large-field tournaments is a huge win, but in most events the top 15% get paid, giving you a solid chance to cash for a decent amount. It takes more skill to win a large-field tournament since you have to outlast more players, but I think they’re ultimately more rewarding.

I remember during the poker boom, Full Tilt used to run a $10K guaranteed tournament with just a $1 buy-in.
