Poker isn’t only math or only psychology, it’s both. Phil Hellmuth always emphasizes reading opponents, but modern players also study game theory deeply too. I remember watching a tournament replay where a player made a perfect call just by noticing tiny behavior changes in his opponent. That kind of instinct can’t be solved by equations alone.
 
Game theory keeps your poker decisions fundamentally solid, especially against strong players, while reading people becomes more valuable in softer games where players make obvious emotional mistakes. When playing poker, I like to read people .
