I play with a “win-first” mindset, and that generally doesn’t change much based on pay jumps in MTTs, at least not until the final table. Before that, the jumps usually aren’t significant enough to justify major adjustments.

Once I’ve secured a min cash, I’m mostly in survival mode, picking my spots carefully and avoiding unnecessary risks. But when the final table hits, where the pay jumps become meaningful, I shift gears. That’s when I start applying more pressure, looking for opportunities to accumulate chips and position myself for a top-three finish, where the real money is.

Trust the process.

Do you adjust your game to chase pay jumps in tournaments, or are you always playing for the win?

All this adjust for pay jump talk sounds nice until reality hit you. Not every hand would prove that you are a pro, but once the final table shows, that's when I would switch.

You shouldn’t be results-oriented. Focus on making the best decisions in key situations and always play to win, variance will reward strong habits over the long run.

For example, I might adjust my strategy around pay jumps. If two players are already all-in ahead of me, I may fold a marginal hand, even as a short stack, when I’d normally call, in order to secure the next payout increase.
