How do you react when a site asks for a "Selfie with ID"?

I was just creating an account this evening and suddenly they requested a selfie with ID beside my face. I first stare at the screen for like two minutes. I understand the security concern, but that looks shady to me. That kind of process doesn't seem right to me.

I do have problems with it if the site I am trying to use a reputable. I don't see much difference in uploading ID and photo or uploading selfie with ID..

I have done it for crypto exchanges, which I think was ok because I was basically investing and trading. However, I wouldn't do it for gambling site.
