Micro stakes are great for beginners. They help you develop discipline through real experience, while teaching you how to handle variance as you grind. They’re also the perfect starting point if you don’t have a large enough bankroll to play higher stakes.

Is bankroll management necessary at micro stakes online?

Yes, bankroll management is still important. At micro stakes, the financial risk is small, but bankroll management builds discipline and protects you from bad habits. It helps you handle variance properly and avoid jumping stakes too quickly. You can be a bit lenient with it, but ignoring it completely usually slows down long-term improvement.

The bankroll matters a lot even for micro. I used to think that “it’s a small money” until I find out that it's not so. Those small losses actually add up quietly. Now I set small limits for myself, even if it's $10.

Even though the money feels small, variance is the same as higher stakes, so losing streaks can still happen. Without proper management, you can go broke or be forced to move down before your skill develops.
