A scheduled World Series of Poker (WSOP) online bracelet event was abruptly canceled on Tuesday due to low participation. The $5,300 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller, part of the WSOP Online fall series running from September 29 to November 12, required at least eight participants but only attracted four before the 7 p.m. Eastern start time. The event was open to players across Michigan, New Jersey, and Nevada via their shared online poker network.
Among the four registered players was Michigan’s Mike “mkstr” Setera, who shared screenshots on X (formerly Twitter) showing the tournament’s cancellation message. The announcement read, “WSOP Bracelet Event #13 - NL Hold’em High Roller Tournament #177149721 has been canceled. Your account has been credited with $5300.”
Setera, a 12-time WSOP Circuit ring winner, told PokerNews that while some satellite qualifiers were available for the tournament, none concluded before the event’s scheduled start. The cancellation surprised many in the poker community, especially for a competition offering one of poker’s most sought-after accolades—a WSOP bracelet.
Two-time WSOP.com NV/NJ Player of the Year Mike “BrockLesnar” Holtz, also a co-host of the PokerNews Podcast, publicly criticized the decision.
Despite the setback, the WSOP Online series has already crowned champions, including author Maria Konnikova, who secured her first bracelet along with a $68,478 prize in a recent event.
The issue of limited player pools may soon improve, as Pennsylvania is set to join the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA). However, it could still take several months before Pennsylvania’s 13 million residents become part of the shared poker network.
Players still have many chances to compete for bracelets throughout the series, with upcoming events featuring buy-ins ranging from $400 to $3,200. Highlights include a $3,200 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller Championship, a $500 PLO Mystery Bounty with a $200,000 guarantee, and other diverse tournaments to engage participants.
Upcoming WSOP Online Bracelet Events
• October 17: $500 No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout
• October 19: $500 No-Limit Hold’em PKO

• November 3: $3,200 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller Championship
