After I lost a chunk of cash on betting years ago, I sat down, wrote out what I owed, and called a financial counselor. It was embarrassing but I think it was the best thing to do in order to free myself. The good thing is I was able to pay it off bit by bit, even if it was just $20 at a time. Seeing progress made me feel like I had some control back.

I’ve been there, and it's not funny at all. First thing is, stop chasing losses because that’s the biggest trap. I learnt that one after I lost double in one week trying to “recover.” These days, I cool down, review my mistakes, and rebuild my bankroll gradually .

I get that because dealing with a big debt or money problem can be rough. Writing it down and getting help is the smartest move. Even if it’s just small payments to the creditors, seeing it go down bit by bit really helps you feel in control again.

Speaking up is the best thing you can do when it comes to taking a huge step towards financial recovery. Being in debt is never easy at all, and it can cause a lot of issues. Many are usually too scared to speak up, but not speaking up only makes things worse.

Even if you speak up and get the help and pay off those debts little by little, it is better than ignoring them.

If you want to recover financially after significant loss, stop gambling entirely, if you play again hoping to recover your loss, you will end up losing more.

I think the best way to recover from your gambling losses is to handover your bank accounts to a trusted family member. That would help to limit you taking out money to gamble to recover that big loss.
