888poker has announced the return of its flagship online tournament festival, XL Series, for its spring edition. Over $1.5 million in prize money will be given away over the course of 76 tournaments.

Action starts at the end of the week, on May 18. There are 54 numbered events plus 22 side events planned, making up a schedule of 76 events in total.

Compared to the last time the Spring edition ran, the series is pared back both in terms of number of events and overall guarantees. Last year, the series ran with $2.3 million guaranteed across 86 events. The average guarantee per event is also down year-over-year to $19,855, down from $26,814 last spring.

However, average buy-ins are also much lower, with events starting at just $5.50, a half-priced Main Event, and a raft of tournaments at $16.50 and $22. The operator is clearly focused more on lower stakes, casual players.
