Tragedy can strike at any time without asking for permission. A very good example is what happened to Tom Abdo. He was a professional poker player from Minnesota. Unfortunately, Tom had a heart attack playing in a $1500 7-card stud tournament in Las Vegas at the WSOP. All medical attempts to revive him was futile.

Do you personally know anyone who died when playing poker?

That's how dead mans hand was started (A8) because somebody got shot after winning with A8.

I'm not sure the name of the player that got shot.

I heard and even read about the demise of Tom Abdo. His death was a sad one and no one expected that he was going to die that way. I haven't had any experience with someone passing on while playing poker around where I stay.

I can't say that I have known anyone to die whilst playing poker. I could understand how it would happen if someone became so addicted that they didn't take care of themselves but thankfully, none that I know of.

Nope, but if it becomes high stakes and stressful, I can see someone having a stroke or heart attack.
This is true. Someone who's with an already known health condition can be vulnerable to having stroke and heart attack when high stakes are involved which he or she can't afford to lose.
