What more crucial in order to be a winning player?

Hard work beats talent, if the talent don't work hard. I think this also applies to poker, and if you manage your funds responsibly, you'll have a lot more success in the long term.

I agree with the statement that hard work trumps talent. And I also think that good career and bankroll management, along with good planning, are very important for a player to remain a winner for long periods.

Talent without discipline is just a cruise. I’ve seen guys read the table like an open book but blow their account in two weeks because they don't know how to manage their bankroll. Bankroll management is not sexy but it's a backbone of the game.

A lot of players play longer when they have a losing session trying to recoup funds. You should be taking breaks when it's not going your way to clear the mind, and playing more when you're on a heater/winning.

My brother, what you said about people overstaying when losing is the real problem. Your bankroll is like the oxygen of the game. I’ve seen one great poker player who reads everybody very easily, but once he’s down with two buy-ins, he started forcing hands. Before you know it, he has finished all his money. That's crazy.

Poker talent and bankroll management matter, but in very different ways. Talent helps you make better decisions at the table, read situations, and find long-term edges. It directly affects how much you can win per hand or session. Bankroll management protects you from going broke during normal downswings.
