Poker is not only a game but a encyclopedia on its own. To understand and comprehend poker, you have to know at least 50% of poker slang or terms before you can compete favorably with other poker players. Am having a hard time mastering all the coded languages and i have to start learning the slangs on 888poker.com. Below is the link to the poker terminology;

I'm pretty familiar with most terms in poker, but understanding terminology has nothing to do with gameplay. However, it's a easy tell you're a new player, if you don't know basic poker slang.

One of the things that I first learned when starting out in poker was the terminology. I know that I understand the most widely used terminology in poker. It was important for me to study and understand them so that I don't look lost when I visit a poker room. Most communication in poker room and in poker circles are done with poker terms.

It's just for the theoretical aspect of playing poker that learning all those poker terminologies have any impact. Aside from that, they're completely useless when it comes to actual playing which is why I don't place any importance on them.

Poker terminology can feel like learning a new language at first. The funny part is that many players use the words casually and expect beginners to understand immediately. Over time it becomes natural though. This is exactly why I stopped trying to memorize everything at once. I learned terms while actually playing and watching games.
