Are There Home Game Rules That Don’t Exist Online?

We don't play Poker at home but I have frequently heard from those who play at home that they have unspoken rules about pace, talk, and behavior when playing at home. Do you have any rules at home that you usually do not find online. Do you see any rules that are fine online but considered rude or suspicious in live home games?

Rules like “Last hand before break,” “winner buys drinks,” don't exist in online games. Online is strict, no emotion. Home games are flexible, sometimes too flexible. That’s why people must be careful not to take things too seriously there.

I don't play poker but that makes sense. Home games probably have their own culture and unwritten rules about how people should act. Online poker is anonymous so people might be ruder or more aggressive. In person you're playing with people you know so respect and manners matter more.

My husband's family has a yearly 24 hour poker game on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. They have some "rules" but those are the sneaky ones that the elders came up with when they know they have the advantage to win. I can't tell what those rules are, because I never understood them, but everyone is really serious about playing! And eating lots of snacks.

Straddles. I never seen any online poker sites add a feature/rule where players can straddle in cash games.

Home games have their own rules. I remembered how a guy tried that “string bet” argument during a small house game and everybody just laughed. But the online software doesn't give room for plenty of nonsense, but for live games, the tables will invent rules on the spot. I’ve seen “no rebuy after 10pm” and even punishment shots for slow play.

Home games are different. We do things our way at home. When we play online it is more structured. I like playing games at home because it is fun to play sometimes and that's because they are different. There are no strict rules.

I seen a couple of side bets/games added to cash games that'll you only see live such as straddling. There is also the fire truck game which I recently learned about, and basically if you win multiple hands in a row. You can collect money from every player at the table.

Live games show real creativity. I’ve seen guys in a home game add a random jackpot rule in the mid-session of the game. Online structure may be boring, but at least the software doesn't change rules because someone is doing better.
