Buffalo Bills Bolster Receiving Corps with Amari Cooper Trade
CLEVELAND — The Buffalo Bills are adding firepower to their receiving corps by acquiring wide receiver Amari Cooper in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, according to a source familiar with the deal. The source, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity since the trade hasn’t been officially announced, said Buffalo gave up a third-round pick in the 2025 draft as part of the exchange, which also involved a swap of late-round picks. NFL.com first broke the news of the trade.
In addition to Cooper, the Bills received a 2025 sixth-round pick from Cleveland, sending back a seventh-round selection for 2026.
Now in his 10th NFL season and third with the Browns, the 30-year-old Cooper has faced challenges in Cleveland’s offense under quarterback Deshaun Watson. So far this season, Cooper has recorded 24 receptions on 53 targets for 250 yards and two touchdowns, both of which came during a Week 3 loss to the New York Giants. His production has slowed recently, managing just 12 catches for 137 yards over the last three games.
The Bills, sitting at 4-2 after a narrow 23-20 victory over the New York Jets, are looking to solidify their standing atop the AFC East. With Josh Allen at the helm, Buffalo’s offense has been searching for reliable receiving options after trading Stefon Diggs to Houston in the offseason and losing Gabe Davis to free agency.
This move comes on the heels of another AFC East shift, as the Jets made a splash earlier in the day by acquiring star wideout Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders, signaling that the division race is heating up. Cooper’s arrival in Buffalo could give the Bills the offensive boost they need for the second half of the season.
