Are straddles part of your game, and do they improve or hurt the action?

Straddles can bring in a lot of fun but they can also turn a chilled game into total chaos very quickly if care is not taken. I prefer games where straddles are allowed but not expected, in such situation it's always fun because you allow people to choose. The moment people start feeling pressured, the fun disappears and everybody becomes too serious.
