GGPoker is introducing a series of new security measures following a recent online poker cheating scandal involving compromised third-party poker applications that allegedly allowed an attacker to view players' hole cards.

Announced on October 16, 2026, the changes include a blanket ban on third-party software, enhanced cheat detection, new security features, and plans to end support for older operating systems.

Third-Party Poker Software Banned

One of the biggest changes affects players who rely on tools to track their results, study hands, or display statistics during games.

GGPoker's updated rules prohibit a wide range of third-party applications, including:

  • PokerTracker 4
  • Hold'em Manager 3
  • Hand2Note
  • DriveHUD 2
  • Jurojin Poker
  • IntuitiveTables
  • StarsCaption
  • Equilab
  • AutoHotkey
The restrictions affect more than just HUDs (heads-up displays). They also cover tracking software, poker utilities, and automation tools that some players use to simplify their gameplay.

GGPoker says third-party applications can create additional security risks by exposing player information. However, the decision may also affect legitimate players who use these tools for studying hands and tracking their bankrolls.

New Client Security Features

GGPoker is preparing to introduce a new Security section within its game settings, featuring four optional tools that operate while the poker client is running.

  • Screen Guard: Helps prevent unauthorized remote viewing of poker tables and the client.
  • Connection Monitor: Alerts players to potentially suspicious connections, including remote-control tools.
  • Process Check: Allows players to exempt specific applications from Connection Monitor alerts.
  • DNS Check: Checks for potential signs of DNS compromise on the player's network.
These features are intended to strengthen protection against threats involving remote access to players' computers.

Improved Cheat Detection

GGPoker is also introducing a system called Win-Rate Anomaly Detection (WAD).

The system looks for unusually high win rates and decision-making patterns that could indicate a player has access to information they shouldn't have, such as opponents' hole cards.

According to GGPoker, the system has been tested against previously confirmed cheating cases and was able to identify them. The operator says it already uses other methods to detect real-time assistance, although the precise details of its detection systems remain confidential.

Older Operating Systems Losing Support

Security improvements will also mean the end of support for certain older operating systems beginning in 2027.

Affected systems include Windows 7 and 8.1, as well as macOS 11 (Big Sur) and earlier versions.

Players will need to upgrade to at least Windows 10 or macOS 12 (Monterey) to continue using the client once support for these older systems ends.

Support for Players Affected by the Scandal

GGPoker says it has traced funds connected to the recent incident and identified a cryptocurrency wallet address believed to be involved. The operator reportedly shared this information with Coinbase and requested that the associated account be restricted.

The company has also pledged to continue cooperating with authorities and the poker community.

Third-Party Developers Push Back

Not everyone agrees with GGPoker's approach.

Jurojin Poker, one of the software providers connected to the recent security concerns, criticized the blanket restrictions. The company argues that legitimate poker tools should not automatically be treated as security threats and has called for greater cooperation between operators and software developers.

Its position is that the industry should establish clearer security standards and improve communication rather than prohibit an entire category of tools.

The disagreement highlights a difficult balance for online poker operators: protecting players from sophisticated cheating attempts while allowing legitimate players to use software that supports their study and regular gameplay.
