Online poker players can get flagged after big wins. Thomas Goldstein’s case is one example. He was federally investigated over allegedly unreported poker related income running in millions of dollars.

Has anyone here personally known a player who went through something similar?

I had similar happen to me years ago on Cake Poker. I was trading funds with another player through ACR, and he ended up sending me a chip dump on Cake. It got red-flagged, and Cake banned my account. The same guy had also ripped me off for the funds I sent him on ACR. This was a long time ago, though, and I honestly don't even remember his name anymore.

Wow, that's crazy. He's obviously a very big scammer. Don't be surprised he already did the same thing to so many people around that time. Did you try contacting support on Cake to explain what happened?

Yes, and they still haven't unbanned me over it. I did call him out publicly when it happened, and I wouldn't be surprised if he scammed other people as well.

Most of us in the USA play unregulated sites that don’t follow the tax rules. They just decide they’re going to close your account for no reason and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Players that can actually play legally and pay taxes and claim their winnings without having to hide any of it, still have to watch out for uncle Sam as he always thinks he should get some of what you have and then some….

It has not happened to me. Getting flagged after a big win is a serious issue. It can take months before you receive your money if that happens. Because of all the scrutiny on gambling winnings, you need to document everything.
