We should try to eliminate the "I'm the smartest person in the room" energy immediately. That's usually where the problems begin. Poker is competitive, yes, but it's still supposed to be enjoyable as well.

I like to keep the stakes reasonable and the atmosphere relaxed. A bit of friendly banter, good food, and regular breaks help a lot. For me, the goal is for everyone to enjoy the evening, not to treat it like a high-pressure tournament.

I think keeping stakes low is one of the best ways to keep the game fun. When stakes are low, no body loses a lot of money or wins a lot of money. When stakes are low, no one plays for money, they are just looking for fun.

I also think keeping the stakes reasonable makes the biggest difference. When there's not too much money on the line, people are more likely to laugh, chat, and enjoy themselves. For me, a home game should feel like a fun night with friends first and a poker game second.
