Playing poker can be a career option to some individuals, especially those considered professional players. They go to tournaments, play online every hour of the day and even get sponsorships. But unfortunately, it is not very easy to make it a primary source of income. It needs persistence, endurance, and continuous education to excel in it. A very small number of players win, whereas a large number of them suffer losses.

Exactly. Going pro isn’t something you can do half-hearted. Poker takes full focus, study, and practice if you want to excel. And the mental side is huge - dealing with variance, staying disciplined during downswings, not letting ego make you play above your bankroll. I've seen people with solid technical skills completely fall apart because they couldn't handle the emotional swings.
You can play perfect poker and still go broke if you're not properly rolled for the stakes you're playing. It's not as sexy as making hero calls or pulling off big bluffs, but it's what keeps you in the game long-term.

Poker can be a full time career. There are only a very small percentage of poker players though that make a successful career out of it because the journey to achieving that is not glamorous at all. It takes a lot of discipline, continuous study sessions and a very strong mindset to make a full time career out of poker.

It is also important to note that one would need to invest much at the start unless you have a mentor who is a pro and is willing to guide you through the steps of making it work in poker as regards taking it as a lifetime job.

Personally, I would consider playing poker a real job even though it's possible to make money playing it. There's no guarantee when it comes to winning which is why I don't put it high up there as a way to make a good living. It's a fun thing to do which you can make money in the process.

I believe there are many reasons one would think twice before making poker a major thing that they do. However, I wouldn't want to be in a situation where it is a main job for me because I am not yet financially secure enough to be spending some funds without making anything in return during a period of time.

I think poker can be a real job for some people, especially pros who make a living playing. It’s like any other profession requires skill, discipline,and strategy. But it’s not for everyone and it can be risky. If you’re serious and good at it it definitely can be a legit career.
