Lil Baby recently opened up about his decision to quit gambling after losing an astonishing $8-9 million in just 40 hours. The rapper, whose real name is Dominique Armani Jones, shared the revelation during an appearance on Lil Yachty’s A Safe Place podcast on December 18.

Reflecting on his gambling habits, the 30-year-old artist admitted the staggering losses were a wake-up call. “In one day—probably like 40 hours straight—I lost like $8 million, $9 million,” he said. Determined to stop, he enlisted the help of his friend, billionaire entrepreneur Michael Rubin, to write letters banning him from all casinos. “I made myself stop gambling,” Lil Baby explained. “Because I’ll just do s***.”

Lil Baby’s rise to fame began in 2017 with his breakout mixtapes Harder Than Hard and Too Hard. His 2020 album My Turn was a massive success, going quadruple platinum and topping charts as the best-selling album of the year. Its hit single, “The Bigger Picture,” became a protest anthem and earned widespread acclaim, including a performance at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

Despite his success, the rapper admitted his wealth led to unhealthy habits, including his gambling problem. Fellow rapper 50 Cent weighed in on Lil Baby’s confession, sharing a clip from the podcast on Instagram. “$8 million gambling? I thought only Floyd [Mayweather] did stuff like that. LOL,” he wrote. “Glad he didn’t kill nobody.”

Lil Baby is now focusing on his music. Earlier this week, he announced his fourth solo studio album, WHAM (Who Hard as Me), which drops January 3. The project will feature collaborations with Future, Young Thug, GloRilla, Rod Wave, Rylo Rodriguez, Travis Scott, and 21 Savage.

It’s clear Lil Baby is making moves to leave bad habits behind and channel his energy into his craft.
