Netflix has officially given the green light to the animated "Ghostbusters" series, originally announced in 2022, sources exclusively reveal to Variety. Additionally, Elliott Kalan has joined the project as both writer and executive producer.
The series was first reported to be in development at Netflix in June 2022. While specific plot details remain under wraps, insiders indicate that the 3D animated show will align tonally with the recent "Ghostbusters" movies.
As previously noted, the series is being produced by Sony Pictures Animation, with Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan of Ghost Corps, Inc. serving as executive producers. Reitman and Kenan, who co-wrote "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" and "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire," will continue their involvement, with Reitman directing the former and Kenan directing the latter. Production will be a joint effort between Netflix and Ghost Corps, Inc., based at Sony’s Columbia Pictures.
