On most casino and gambling website I usually see a notice that says Responsible Gambling. Is responsible gambling something that should be practiced by the player or does a casino also has something in place to implement responsible gambling. What does responsible gambling means? How do casino and gambling websites ensure that gambling is responsible.

It is a very serious question. And I've known people have a problem with it. At the end of the day, the responsibility rests on the individual. Moderation in all things, being honest with yourself, and always keeping a rational outlook is key.

Unfortunately, casinos don't have anything in place to curb irresponsible gambling. That's how they make lots of profit after all. The responsibility is solely on the gambler to know how much to play and when to apply the brakes.

That's not true at all.

In the State of Illinois, you can enroll to be state-excluded. This will stop all communications and marketing from casinos in the state. It will also result in an arrest if you are caught trying to gamble. Most states have a similar program for this. Most casinos have responsible gaming ambassadors who look for this stuff. I work in a position where we make sure it happens, and it does quite often.

Oh that's great to know. I guess I was speaking based on how the situation is in my locality. It will be helpful if something like this is adopted in more places.

It isn't to say that some casinos do a bad job at it, though. I'm sure that's the case.

But in most cases, gaming commissions that control their internal controls probably require it and will audit for it.

Most bad audits can result in big fines for the house.

I gamble, but I do it responsibly. I make sure to set limits and put bankroll management first. That's how I avoid impulsive gambling.
That's a good thing.

We get daily players. Some are addicts and eventually have to be helped. Most know when to stop, are retired, and mainly there for the social aspects of it but still usually win quite a bit.

It is under the discretion of the player to decide what they want to do. You have been told to gambling responsibly, but if you decide to do otherwise, that is on you as the player.

And once you do responsible gaming on yourself, it's the state's responsibility to make it stick.
