I don't think recreational players need to follow strict bankroll rules like professionals. If you're playing mainly for entertainment, the most important thing is staying within a budget you're comfortable losing and making sure poker never becomes a financial burden.
 
I think it depends on your goals. If poker is just a hobby, I don't think you need to follow strict bankroll rules like a professional. That said, I'd still set a budget and stick to it. Taking the occasional shot is fine, as long as you're comfortable with the possibility of losing it.
 
Even if poker is just a hobby, i still think we need to have a bankroll discipline because your money can disappear faster than you expect. I prefer enjoying the game without putting myself under pressure.
