A heated discussion recently showed how tricky this topic is. Poker income swings hard and not everyone understands that. When you constantly update people about your losses, it can create panic. So, managing expectations is almost as important as managing your bankroll.

I'm too excited after a good score to not tell my friends, and family if I win big. I haven't been playing games with a chance for a nice payday though.

I'd have no issue with telling my spouse if I won or if I lost money. He knows I'm frugal and would set a limit for losses before I even begin playing/gambling. If I won money, I'd share because that's just me.

If I'm gambling playing poker, my family will definitely be aware of it because they are the first people to feel the impact when I overplay my hand and lose too much. When they know how I've been winning and losing, they will most likely be the first people telling me to stop.
