Slot strategy; Start small and stay small

Slot is generally believed that it have no strategy. That's a game that so much depend on luck. But one of my friend who is expert in slot shared a winning strategy he use to win substantial amount in slot. His strategy is very simple, just start small and stay small. Don't try to use Martingale strategy or slot will punish you seriously.
What's your opinion on this?
