What does “HODL” mean and why do people say it?

I was arguing with my neighbor and he keep shouting "HODL!!!" like it's a prayer point. I have come across a lot of riddles in crypto and this one too. If holding is the best strategy, who will tell me when to sell before it crash again? I'm just confused because those grammar are quite confusing. Who can explain this better?

It is just the twisted version of the English world HOLD. It simply means holding onto your coins even if the market is not favorable. By Hodling you are betting that your investment will eventually pay off even if it does not seem like that presently.

The term HODL was coined by a user on Bitcoin Talk forum many years ago. When Bitcoin crashed, he wrote I am HODLing. It was just a typo, which the user later admitted he was drunk when he posted. Internet made the term popular. These days people say HODL when they mean they are holding the coin

I knew HODL means to hold and it is mostky popular in the crypto space but I wasn't aware of the history behind it
