What's that all about people using poker software to help aid their game?

I've heard some poker players talk about how several poker sites allow their players to make use of third party tracking softwares to help and aid their games. I have never used or know any third party tracking softwares which can be used for such purposes.

How do they work? How are they used to aid a player's game?

Poker Tracker 4 and similar software's shows you information on players such as VPIP(Voluntary put money into pot), and other stats based on previous hands your opponents played.

You can use that information to decide whether or not they tight or aggressive players. I tried one years ago, but I can't say it helped my game.

I tried playing players based on their stats, and players don't always play the same way.

Bad players can still have good games.

This is totally true. It's why sometimes I have to agree that luck plays a part in some people's game because ordinarily, with the knowledge they have, they can't win big numbers but they do.

I think it's an advantage to use a tracking software as it helps to collect data on opponents playing styles and provide necessary stats that can help you make a better decision at the table.
