Why do players underestimate how much position affects win rates?

Position is one of the first concepts players learn, but many still don’t fully use it. A lot of people play too many hands when they’re out of position or don’t change how aggressive they should be based on where they sit. Is it just a habit? Impatience? Or do players think they’re good enough post-flop to make up for it?
