The last time I played live was at least five years ago, but if I were to play live poker again, I would adjust my game to incorporate live tells if I had strong reads. For me, that would be the only major difference when adapting my game from what I’ve learned playing online.

Do you have a different playing style when you play online poker, or do you approach both online and live the same way?

I play differently. Online poker is more technical and volume-based, whereas live poker is more about observation, patience, and adjusting to people.

I don’t play online much, but when I do I use a different approach. I play tighter, rely more on stats and timing instead of physical reads, and make quicker decisions. Online poker is faster, so I focus more on discipline.

Online poker MTTs today are predominantly in hyper-turbo formats, which force players to make quicker decisions. However, with good game selection and discipline developed over time, online tournaments are still beatable. Cash games are a different story, you may also have to contend with bots, depending on where you play.

The online and live poker are not the same at all. Online is all about speed and calculations, live is a mind game and body language. If you play the online style on the live table, they will read you like a book. Plus the online connection issue can affect your decision as well.
