What strategies do experienced players use to read their opponents during a game?

What are some techniques that good poker players use to figure out what their opponents are thinking during a game? Are there certain signs or behaviors they watch for to get an edge? I’d like to know more about how these players improve their understanding of others and make better choices in the game.

In poker games, some experienced players use verbal and non-verbal signs for reading their opponents. They can use eye contact or any other gestures. They also observe the table to track their opponent as well.

Players like Daniel Negreanu conversate with players during hands to pick up information. Negreanu is one of the best to do it. I'd watch/study live hands that he's played.

Reading your opponents is not an easy thing, but is the real source of poker games. I watch people’s patterns, how fast they bet and how they act after a flop. I like that challenge though as it keeps the game deep. Poker is psychology mixed with patience.

I am always eager to know their patterns when watching players. They focus on patterns and timing more than anything else. They pay attention to how fast their opponents bets, how often they raise or fold, even small reactions or habits.

Good players watch for betting patterns first - does someone always bet big with strong hands or do they mix it up? Physical tells in live games matter too - shaky hands, how they handle chips, sudden changes in posture or breathing. Timing tells are huge online - quick calls usually mean draws, long pauses might indicate tough decisions. Also watch how people react to board cards and whether their story makes sense across all betting streets.
