Do you pay taxes on your winnings from an online poker site?

Paying taxes is a norm on earnings in any country as far as I can tell but I'm not sure if it's included in earning from gambling and winning from a poker site.

Since you started playing games online using poker sites, have you been paying taxes on all of your earnings withdrawn?

I don't think tax is being paid on winnings, unless things are different in other places. It is just like sports betting, you don't get taxed on your winnings.

Fortunately in Canada all winnings, whether they be gambling or lottery are tax exempt. We can even claw back much of what is withheld when we win in a US casino.

Am fortunate enough to be in one of those countries that don't care much about taxation because billions of dollars are flowing into the country through crude oil business. And unfortunately they don't know what to do with the excess fund but to lot and squander it with reckless abandon.

Generally speaking in a lot of countries, especially in the United States, you have to report your online income. Winnings from poker sites aren't any different. If it enters your paypal account or anything like that, they see it. You'll get audited it for it.

Since Donald Trump signed in that 'Big Beautiful Bill' United state's gamblers have lose sleep over the taxation of gambling winning. It is very disheartening that the government will milking the poor for their selfish interests.

I don't play poker but from what I understand yes,..you're technically supposed to report gambling winnings as income and pay taxes on them in most countries. Whether online poker sites actually report your winnings to tax authorities depends on the site and your location. A lot of people probably don't report smaller wins though, honestly.

I thought you only had to claim it if it was over a certain amount of money (but I could be wrong).

In my case, I probably would just so that I wouldn't get stuck having to pay for it later when I had to file my taxes the following year. Better to be safe than sorry.

Tax enforcement here is not like what they have abroad. Our system is not even stable, so we don't really bother about tax. So, I just focus first on making consistent profit before panicking about hypothetical issues.

No, there is no tax deductions on my winnings. I use payment wallets or crypto for withdrawal, and then withdraw my crypto or wallet funds to my bank accounts. I pay transaction fees but no taxes.
