Confidence vs. ego: where’s the line in poker?

I think my confidence in my abilities definitely helps me perform well, but I’ll admit it’s also led to developing a bit of an ego.

To me, true confidence means not letting a bad beat or suckout affect your game. If you’re a winning player, one loss or setback is just a small part of the bigger picture.

Do you think some players are overconfident and let their ego get in the way? Thoughts?

In poker, confidence comes from knowing your ranges, odds, and when to make disciplined decisions. Ego shows up when you start forcing plays, ignoring evidence, or refusing to fold just to “be right.”

It is very difficult to draw a line, at least you might not do it for yourself. What you think as confidence might be interpreted by others as ego. What you think is ego on other people might be their way of showing confidence.

Ego and confidence is a very thin line. There was a session where I overplayed a hand just because I felt unstoppable. That’s ego talking, not skill. Confidence is supposed to make you calm, ego will make you make reckless decisions.

Confidence means you know your limit, ego means you over estimate yourself. When you are over confident, it naturally becomes ego. When you play casino games, especially something like Poker, you need to stop your confidence growing into over confidence.

Confidence means you are certain, ego is when you are over confident. When you are confident you will take better decisions and when you are overconfident you will make bad decisions.

It can be very easy to mistake ego as confidence. I think where to draw the line is finding a balance with keeping calm while you play, and let people see you through your skills.
