Overplaying hands is a common mistake by poker players, and it's even more important in Cash Games.

Chasing hands that don't get there can quickly eat away at your funds. It's important to have a good balance of how many hands you play. Protect your blinds, but don't get commit and large percent of your stack without making a strong hand, unless you have a strong read/tell on your opponent where you can attempt steal the pot.

Remember, when bluffing bet the lowest amount that you think your opponent will fold too. If you think they won't fold to a larger bet, fold. Betting a lower amounts helps you save chips for future hands, and value betting is a very good practice.

Common hands that are overplayed are AK, AQ, AJ, KQ, KJ. These are not MADE hands, they are good hands preflop, but can be very costly if you don't hit. Sometimes, even when you make a pair. A lot of pairs wont fold top pair with these type of hands. Play the player, not the hands. Don't over play them, and don't get bullied.

Any thoughts?

It takes real discipline not to fall into the trap of AK or AQ. Many poker players including me sometimes lack that strong discipline. That firmness to wait for stronger hands and not enter much with single pairs would always be helpful at the end.

One of the most popular poker errors is overplaying the hands which may cause considerable loss. One must be selective in the hands which he/she plays and wait to take strong opportunities to win. Poker is a game that requires discipline and patience and learning how to fold will keep you saving more chips than it would have been.
