I strongly believe that early in tournaments, you should be patient, wait for strong hands and focus on extracting maximum value from weaker players.

Tournaments are a marathon, not a sprint. You need to be prepared to play for hours, and a lot can change over that time. There’s no need to force the action early when there are plenty of opportunities later.

I always play to win while aiming to make smart, disciplined decisions. That said, I like to mix things up occasionally to stay unpredictable.

Thoughts?

That “survive early” mindset can trap you so badly. I tried it before, just folding and waiting, the next thing, the blinds has finished the stack before real play even started. Then, I was short stacked already, I couldn’t even make moves again.

Surviving early isn’t a bad game plan, especially for new players. It’s just not my approach, particularly at lower stakes where I’m usually up against weaker players.
