Trusting Your Reads vs. Following Theory

When theory and your instincts disagree, which do you trust more?

I try to follow theory, I also trust my reads, however, when theory and my reads conflict, I always go with my reads. It is easier to trust myself than a theory based on some other people's perception.

The theory comes first for me. Reads are useful, but emotions can gets in the way and disguise themselves as reads sometimes. I've seen this happen to so many players

I try to use theory as my foundation, but I won't ignore a strong read just because it doesn't fit perfectly. If I've seen enough from a player to trust my read, I'm comfortable adjusting. The tricky part is knowing when it's a real read and when it's just a guess.

I'd trust theory. Instincts can be useful, especially against familiar opponents, but they're also influenced by emotion and recent results. I prefer to use theory as my foundation and only let instincts guide me when there's a good reason to deviate.
